| The back of the anode has been chemically
treated to produce a matt black surface which increases the rate at
which heat can be lost through radiation. The treatment cannot be
applied to the front of the anode, since any coating would be rapidly
stripped off by the electron bombardment. The pit visible in the lower right is where the tungsten has been ground away to balance the anode assembly. |
